In the concluding chapter, the author discusses how feminist theories grounded in historical materialism provide a productive discussion of how to apply both a political economic approach and Society and Technologies Studies (STS) perspective to understand financial crises. By focusing on women as both material and discursive beings, it is argued that ‘macrostructures’ such as the economy and financial markets are constituted in intensely local settings because concrete objects are required for consideration of the meaning of money. When human beings interact with material objects, they shape discourse about money while simultaneously altering the material world by shifting time and space parameters. By acknowledging that financial crisis is produced through gendered discourses and technologically-embedded information, the author argues that there exists an alternative explanation of financial crisis, other than human flaws and a natural economic cycle; financial crises should be recognised as gendered and technological.
